The FEF is the most important student representative organisation at the community level.

In Belgium,higher education is a communitary responsability and in the case of the french-speeking students, it is a responsability of the Frech-speeking Community.

The FEF represents around 130 000 students from all types of higher education : Universities, Colleges, Art Schools and Life long learning establishments.
